Ingersoll, Ontario was home to the first cheese factories in Canada and in 1866 produced a 7,300 lb. ‘Mammoth Cheese’ wheel. Say Cheese! Today, heavy manufacturing is Ingersoll’s largest industry. The town is home to a plant that has produced millions of vehicles. Vroom! Ingersoll is twinned with Great Barrington, Massachusetts, which is also the home of its founder, Thomas Ingersoll. First opened in 1977, the Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum is a faithful recreation of a 19th century cheese factory. With all its contents coming from working factories, this is a great place to roll back the clock and experience the industry that laid Ingersoll’s foundations.
