Picture this: you set a goal you wish to achieve during 2018, but within days you’ve already strayed from achieving your goal. It’s a common scenario that happens to over half of people who make resolutions every New Year’s. So, to help you stick to your resolutions we’ve made a list of tips to help guide you!

Make Small Goals

Start by making small goals. By setting big, almost unrealistic goals, it can be a daunting task to start your resolution. This is why setting smaller goals can be a good idea. Remember, your goal doesn’t have to take a year to achieve. By setting goals that take a couple months at a time, you can set new goals through the year and feel the satisfaction of completing them more often, resulting in more motivation to keep going. Additionally, by setting smaller goals you’ll be able to look back at the end of 2018 and see the many goals you’ve accomplished throughout the course of the year.

It Takes Time

Achieving your New Year’s Resolutions won’t happen in a day. In order to kick a bad habit, it takes time to develop a good habit. Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t see the results you want immediately, or if you have a fall back one day. Instead, try to focus on the positives, like how long you lasted before you slipped up and work towards beating that number.

Share your Goals

Another tip for achieving your goals is to share your goal with other people. Scientific studies suggest that people are more likely to act a certain way when they are being watched. By telling people your goals, you’ll be more likely to act a certain way as well. When people know the goal you’re trying to accomplish, you’re more likely to push yourself to achieve it since people are aware of it and watching for you to complete it. Telling people your goal also allows you to have someone to share your struggles and successes with.

Review your progress

Be sure to keep notes or pictures of the progress you have made and the things you have accomplished. This will help to motivate you when you’re feeling down about completing your resolution or are thinking of giving up. By being able to look at your progress so far, you’ll be more motivated to continue working on your goals and it will push you to achieve them.
