Let’s Begin with the Coverage You Need to Grow Your Business.

Our Excalibur Insurance Brokers might ask a lot of questions – for good reason. Due to your specialized services, automotive repair and maintenance shops face unique risks. You work with hazardous materials, deal directly with clients, and carry out crucial maintenance tasks for their vehicles daily. You also use expensive mechanical and electrical equipment to perform their services.

The wide range of activities your team members undertake, means there are a number of different risks and exposures you face. Our team wants to ensure you have exactly the coverage you require.

Here are a few areas of specialized concern you may want to consider when reviewing your coverage:

  • Property Exposure
from fire caused by oils, solvents, or other flammables, which must be appropriately labelled, stored and separated. Welding exposures are often a part of the operation. They need to be evaluated for proper handling of the tanks and gases and adequate separation from the other operations with a separate room or flash/welding curtains.
  • Inland Marine Exposure
comes from goods in transit. Employees will run errands to pick up various needed items and transport them back to the operations. Values will vary based on the parts required. The radius will also vary but tends to be local.
  • Crime Exposures
from Employee Dishonesty and money and securities. There should be inventory control procedures to prevent employee theft. Different individuals should handle all ordering and inventory control to have adequate checks and balances. Cash should be maintained by a cashier with money regularly deposited.
  • Occupier’s Liability Exposure
is from slips and falls by customers. There is also the attractive nuisance of cars in the parking lots. Customer waiting areas should be provided, and customers must not be permitted in the garage area. Lots should be well-lit, with chains to prevent entrance after hours. Product liability concerns stem from vehicles that are not correctly repaired. Check-off procedures should be in place.
  • Environmental Impairment Exposures
are from errand running to pick up needed supplies. Vehicles must be regularly checked, in particular the hoists and tow bars. All drivers should have valid licences and their MVRs regularly checked. If towing takes place, a more serious exposure exists. All tow drivers must be experienced in towing.
  • Automobile Liability Exposures
are from errand running to pick up needed supplies. Vehicles must be regularly checked, in particular the hoists and tow bars. All drivers should have valid licences and their MVRs regularly checked. If towing takes place, a more serious exposure exists. All tow drivers must be experienced in towing.
  • Automobile Liability Exposures
are from errand running to pick up needed supplies. Vehicles must be regularly checked, in particular the hoists and tow bars. All drivers should have valid licences and their MVRs regularly checked. If towing takes place, a more serious exposure exists. All tow drivers must be experienced in towing.
  • Garagekeepers Exposure or Garage Auto Coverage
comes from the physical damage losses to customers’ vehicles while in the repair shop’s care, custody and control. Lots must be well-lit and chains in place to prevent transport. Fences and other security may also be appropriate.
  • Workplace Safety Exposures
come from injury while lifting the vehicle or using hoists. Other non-mechanical lifting exposures could result in back injury, sprains, strains or hernias.
  • Dealer Plate Coverage
Dealerships have unique coverage needs. They need to be protected should their customer get in an accident while test-driving a vehicle. Depending on the quantity and value of the vehicles the dealership sells they can purchase a liability limit that will cover the cost of vehicle replacement caused by a test driver accident. Dealer plate coverage ensures the vehicles for sale are legal to drive on the road.

These are just a number of the real risks your employees and customers face daily in the repair business. To keep your team operating at its best your Excalibur Commercial Insurance specialist will review coverage options with you.

Insurance providers favour teams with a comprehensive Safety Program.

Could your business benefit from our FREE Auto Repair Employee Safety Manual?

While you may not need all of the coverages listed below, it’s worth getting familiar with the ways your business can protect its assets. A well protected business is a reliable one – able to confidently take on the next repair without fear of ‘what if’s’

Here are some of the Commercial Insurance types you should consider for your contracting business:

Commercial General Liability Insurance

This is the one type of insurance that every contractor really needs to have. It protects you against the actions of others. Many jobsites will not let you work on them unless you have this liability insurance.

Commercial Property Insurance

If you have a brick and mortar spot your business calls home – you might want to protect it. This coverage protects your business premises against losses due to theft, fire, vandalism, falling objects and other ‘named perils’

Background Interruption Insurance

Many small businesses are not insured if something happens where they need to temporarily close due to a claim. A fire, flood or break in may temporarily halt business and create serious cash flow stress.

Builders Risk Insurance

Builders risk or ‘construction insurance’ is a form of property insurance that covers projects under construction, renovation or repair. This coverage is used during the course of construction.

Installation Floater Insurance

Installation Floater coverage protects your property and materials while a job is in progress. Materials in transit, at a temporary location and at a job site location are not covered for losses without this coverage.

Contractors Equipment Coverage

Contractors Equipment Insurance protects the owned and rented equipment your business depends on from loss, damage and theft. This coverage can be tailored to your business needs, its industry and the equipment and tools you use.

Commercial Umbrella Insurance

Commercial “Umbrella” Liability coverage extends the limits and coverage of your Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance capacity. It acts like a shield moving to fill gaps that might exist in your individual policies.

Commercial Auto & Fleet Insurance

Commercial Auto coverage ensures that any vehicles used by your business, occasionally or full time, are protected in the case of an accident.

Equipment Breakdown

Equipment Breakdown Insurance protects the equipment your business depends on from sudden and accidental, physical damage that requires its repair or replacement.

Directors and Officers

D&O coverage protects boards of directors and officers against lawsuit expenses. This includes public, private, profit, and non-profit organizations.

Crime Insurance

Commercial “Crime Insurance & Employee Dishonesty” coverage helps protect businesses of all scale and scope from losses due to crime that can occur within or outside your organization.

Cyber Insurance

Cyber Insurance helps cover expenses when your network is hacked, or your data is stolen. It can include coverage for extortion, crisis management, and business interruption expenses.

Errors and Omissions Insurance

This coverage protects professionals and businesses should a client suffer a loss because of an error, alleged negligence or missed element this coverage can help with the financial impact on the business.

You deserve an insurance broker who leaves nothing to chance, wants to save you money – and is willing to tell you the unvarnished truth.
